ExpoQA 2022 was a conference that took place in Madrid between the 31st May and 2nd June 2022. This week I will be posting some sketchnotes for the talks that I attended.

Have you ever been in a situation where you’ve been stuck on something, but you were too afraid to ask for help? Unfortunately its an easy situation to be in. Veerle delivers a powerful talk where she explains not only that its ok to ask for help but also how to ask for help. No one is expected to know everything.

Key points

  • When something goes wrong and you have no idea how to fix it, the support will usually be available so long as you ask for it.
  • There is no shame in not knowing everything and asking for help. Sometimes, all you need to do is find the right person to ask.
  • Sometimes, simply rephrasing the question can get you the information you need. Try asking who can help rather than asking for specific advise. If the person you’re asking can’t help you, they may know someone else who can.
  • It may seem rude to disturb someones work by asking for help, but the majority of people actually don’t mind being asked. Some actually like being the approached to help with a problem.
  • If you are still scared to ask for help, ask yourself this question: Is it better to be stuck and unable to continue your work, or embarrassed?
